Mary Elizabeth Kenyon was born on 26 October 1866 at Buenavista, Ohio.1 She married Wyatt Simson Gifford, son of John Gifford and Cassandra Tolle, circa 1883.1,2 Mary Elizabeth Kenyon died at Oakland, California.1       Mary Elizabeth Kenyon was born in southern Ohio in the 1860's. She grew up in a log cabin along the Ohio river, and eventually married Wyatt Gifford who was abusive and whom eventually left. Her mother forced her to abandon her daughter Pearl at the Hannah Neil Center in Columbus, Ohio. She moved to California where she married a man named Adkins. She had two children by this marriage. Her children ignored her after their father died, and she died alone and penniless in California.1 She was a nurse and an artist.1 Her married name was Gifford.1

Leonard Thornburg was born circa 1796 at North Carolina.1,2,3 He married Dorothy (?) circa 1815.4,1,2 Leonard Thornburg died after 17 September 1870 Leonard probably died in Greene County, Tennessee sometime after 1870, the last census he has been found on, and before 1880 where no record of him has yet to be found.5       The parentage of John J. is circumstantial. Leonard and Dorothy THORNBURG are probably also his parents but at this time it is not proved. John J. was of the right age to be a son of Leonard. He came from North Carolina as did his father according to the 1880 federal census. He is living in the same general area as other members of the Leonard THORNBURG family. More work will have to be done to show if this is another son of Leonard and Dorothy.6 The parentage of Daniel is circumstantial. On his pension application for benefits relating to his service in the Civil War he states that he was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina. He also states that he had lived in Tennessee for fifty nine years which would place his moving there around 1847. In the 1860 U.S. Federal Census he is listed as Ales Thornburg. In looking at the 1850 U.S. Federal Census for Washington County Tennessee there is a Leonard Thornburg who has a son named Elias. The family of Leonard are all born in North Carolina. In looking at the census records for Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1830 there is a Leonard THRONBURG of the right age listed with family members who are also of the right age to be those included in the 1850 census listing. So it is very probable that the father and mother of Daniel are the Leonard and Dorothy listed in Washington County, Tennessee in the 1850 U.S. Federal Census.6 The parentage of William is circumstantial. Leonard and Dorothy THORNBURG are probably also his parents but at this time it is not proved. William was of the right age to be a son of Leonard. He came from North Carolina. He is living in the same general area as other members of the Leonard THORNBURG family and like other members of Leonard's family he was a shoe maker. More work will have to be done to show if this is another son of Leonard and Dorothy.6 He was also known as Leonard Thornburgh.2 The parentage of Wesley is circumstantial. Leonard and Dorothy THORNBURG are probably also his parents but at this time it is not proved. Wesley was of the right age to be a son of Leonard. He came from North Carolina as did his father according to the 1880 federal census. He is living in the same general area as other members of the Leonard THORNBURG family and like other members of Leonard's family he was a shoe maker. Lastly Marcus THORNBURG, son of Leonard, was living with both Leonard and Wesley in 1850 according to the census. More work will have to be done to show if this is another son of Leonard and Dorothy.6 The parentage of Joel is circumstantial. Leonard and Dorothy THORNBURG are probably also his parents but at this time it is not proved. Joel was of the right age to be a son of Leonard. He came from North Carolina as did his father according to the 1880 federal census. He is living in the same general area as other members of the Leonard THORNBURG family. More work will have to be done to show if this is another son of Leonard and Dorothy.6 He appeared on the census of circa 1830 at Lincoln Co, North Carolina, This is the census record of a Leonard THRONBURG. Enumerated with him were two males under five years old, 1 male between five and ten years old, two males between ten and fifteen years old, one female between five and ten years old and one female between thirty and forty. Leonard was between thirty and forty as well. This Leonard is most probably the same Leonard THORNBURG found in the 1850 Washington Co, Tennessee federal census. Even thought the last names are spelled differently those spellings appear to be interchangeable in that part of North Carolina.7 He was a shoemaker on 25 September 1850 at 4th Civil District, Washington Co, Tennessee.1 He and Dorothy (?) appeared on the census of 25 September 1850 at 4th Civil District, Washington Co, Tennessee.1 Leonard Thornburg was a shoemaker on 21 June 1860 at Graysburg Post Office, Greene Co, Tennessee.2 He and Dorothy (?) appeared on the census of 21 June 1860 at Graysburg Post Office, Greene Co, Tennessee.2 Leonard Thornburg was a shoemaker on 17 September 1870 at Midway Post Office, Greene Co, Tennessee.3 He and Dorothy (?) appeared on the census of 17 September 1870 at Midway Post Office, Greene Co, Tennessee.3

Asa Shipley was born circa 1806 at Knox Co, Tennessee.2 He was born circa 1805 at Knox Co, Kentucky.1 He married Roseanna Bean circa 1826.2,1,3       And Saraphina Shipley Saraphina's parents might have been Asa SHIPLEY and Rosanna BEAN. In the book "William Bean: Pioneer of Tennessee and his Descendants" compiled by Jamie Ault Grady, she lists Saraphina as the second child of this couple. As yet no primary evidence has been found to corroborate this.4 Asa Shipley was a cabinet maker on 10 July 1860 at Washington Co, Tennessee.2 He and Roseanna Bean appeared on the census of 10 July 1860 at Jonesboro Post Office, Boonscreek District, Washington Co, Tennessee.2
