John of Gaunt was born in March 1340 at Ghent.1 He married Blanche of Lancaster on 19 May 1359.1 John of Gaunt married Constance of Castile in June 1371.1 John of Gaunt married Cathrine Roet in January 1396/97.1 John of Gaunt died on 3 February 1399 at Leicester Castle, England, at age 58.1       Fourth son of Edward III, John was commander in France 1367-74, during the Hundred Years' War. From 1371 he ruled England for his senile father & young nephew Richard II; his economic policies & alliance with John Wyclif made him unpopular in many quaters as did unsuccessful campaingns to claim the Castilian throne 1369-73. His eldest son became Henry IV. He became the Duke of Lancaster circa 1362.

Joan Beaufort was the daughter of John of Gaunt. Joan Beaufort was born circa 1375. She married Ralph de Nevill. Joan Beaufort married Sir Robert de Ferrers, son of Sir Robert de Ferrers and Lady Elizabeth Botiller.1 Joan Beaufort died on 13 November 1440 at Howden, England.1      Her married name was de Nevill. Her married name was de Ferrers.
