The Total Solar Eclipse of 26 February 1979. I tampered with reality a little to show the red prominences on each side of the sun as they appeared when they were at their best. The actual oil painting is a little larger than my scanner, but I managed to capture most of it in this image.

The crescent moon. This painting was perhaps made in 1979. At any rate, the observation it was based upon was probably made within a year of 1979 using a 20cm Schmidt Cassegrain telescope at very low power. I didn't keep very accurate records back then. Perhaps others will learn from such oversights.
The complete painting, too large for my scanner, shows a crescent Venus perhaps 1/4 degree north of the moon's northern limb. North is to the upper right.

Jupiter and Comet Shoemaker-Levy-9 Impact Scars at 2:38 UT on 1 August 1994. A 25cm Newtonian was used at 274x. Callisto is to the southeast of the planet. The larger painting from which this image was cropped shows Io and Europa west of Jupiter.

Saturn at 5:20 UT on 4 October 1996. Dione and Rhea are east of Saturn. The larger painting shows Titan a bit further to the east. A 13cm refractor was used at 220x.

M31, the Great Andromeda Galaxy, and its nearby companions, M110 (above) and M32 (below). This view is based on an observation made with 8x42 binoculars under a dark, rural sky at 3:30-3:48 UT on 29 January 1998.

M45, the Pleaides star cluster, as observed on the 3rd and 4th of November 1998 with a 13cm refractor at 21x. Note the distinct "fanned" appearance of the Merope Nebula and the subtle nebulosity around some of the other stars.
